About

Fifty-one notes on process mining and task mining, written from the practitioner's side.

Who this is for

Analysts building event logs. Process owners being shown the results. Operations and shared-service managers. Internal audit. Anyone handed a process mining licence and a deadline.

How the notes are written

The mechanism before the product. What each analysis actually computes and where it misleads, before any question of tooling.

Methods you can run. Where a note says something is measurable, it says how, usually in SQL against data you already have.

Limits stated plainly. One note is entirely about questions the log cannot answer, with what to use for each instead.

The uncomfortable findings included. Most deployments produce diagrams and no change. Discovered models reflect the algorithm's filtering as much as the process. Simulation outputs deserve scepticism. Deviation is not error, and reporting it as error loses the audience immediately.

The boundary at desktop capture

Process mining reads records systems were already creating. Task mining creates new records of a named person's activity at their computer.

These notes treat the second as workplace monitoring, because it is. A full section covers the obligations, the bounded-study arrangement that makes it defensible, what should not be captured at all, and the cheaper alternatives to try first.

Nothing here describes covert capture, and requests for it will not be answered.

Editorial position

No vendor material, no sponsored content, no affiliate arrangements, no product rankings. Where tooling is discussed it is in terms of what to test on your own data and what to ask.

About this domain

This address previously belonged to a gardening blog. Almost every article on it was written and signed by one named author, in the first person, drawing on her own experience.

None of that material is here and none of it should be. Acquiring a lapsed domain transfers no right to republish someone's personal writing, and the site carried no author page through which it could even be attributed properly.

Every previous address returns a clear "gone" response rather than redirecting to unrelated material.
